Kane County Cougars News Release

BURLINGTON, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars are a season-high four games out of first place after they lost each end of a doubleheader Tuesday night against the Burlington Bees. The Cougars fell, 4-2, and, 5-3, in front of 515 fans at Community Field after they'd won the opener of the series Monday. It's the first time in six doubleheaders this season they've been swept.

Jamie Richmond (4-3) pitched a six-inning complete game in the first contest but lost for the first time in three outings. He allowed two different two-run innings, ceding six hits, walking none and striking out five. The Cougars were down, 2-0, in the third when Larry Cobb's two-single off Eduardo Paulino (2-2) plated Carlos Arrieche, and Jonathan Johnston smashed his first professional home run in the fourth, a two-out shot that tied the game, 2-2. But the Bees scored the game-deciding runs in the fifth after Richmond retired the first two hitters.

Brent Lysander (0-1) made his Cougars debut as the starter in Game 2 and gave up three first-inning runs, two earned. Michael Lissman belted a two-run homer in the second off Ed Cegarra (2-4) to cut it to, 3-2, but the Bees scored off Lysander in the bottom half to offset the tally. Greg Dowling got the Cougars within a run at 4-3 with two-out RBI single in the fifth, but reliever Scott Deal served up a homer in the bottom of the inning for the 5-3 score that became the final.

The Cougars (27-16) and Bees (18-26) meet again Wednesday night at 6:30 CT for the fourth contest in their five-game series. Scott Moore (1-2, 3.98) will oppose Matt Mitchell (0-4, 4.80).
