Cougars Select Slovenian Defenceman Luka Zorko 80th Overall in the 2015 CHL Import Draft

Prince George, B.C. - With the 80th overall selection in the 2015 CHL Import Draft, Prince George Cougars General Manager, Todd Harkins has selected 1997-born defenceman Luka Zorko of Slovenia.

The 6'5", 205 pound Zorko has spent each of the past two seasons playing in the Russian Junior Hockey League (MHL) with Atlanty Mytishchi. This season he dressed in 33 games and scored two goals, four assists and 26 penalty minutes and was a +2. Internationally, Zorko represented Slovenia in both the U-20 D1A and U-18 D1B World Junior Tournaments and captured a silver medal in the U-18 tournament. The previous season (2013-14) Zorko won a bronze medal with Slovenia in the U-18 D1B World Junior tournament.

"He's a big defenceman who flew under the radar playing in the Russian junior league and finished the season on Central Scouting's European draft list (120th)," said Prince George Cougars General Manager, Todd Harkins. "He's a steady, mobile defenceman who plays a hard game, defends well and moves the puck efficiently."

In 2014, Zorko was selected by the KHL's Spartak Moskva in the fourth round (143rd overall).

Zorko joins forward Bartek Bison of the Netherlands as one of the two Europeans selected by the Prince George Cougars in the 2015 CHL Import Draft.
