Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Cougars are inviting all fans to make a trip to Elfstrom Stadium for a Labor Day weekend holiday homestand beginning this Friday, August 29. For the final time in 2008, the Cougars are featuring post-game fireworks shows, special entertainment and autograph sessions with players. This is the fans' last chance to see Chiefs manager and former Cub Ryne Sandberg at Elfstrom Stadium in 2008. The legend returns home to Chicago for the final four home games. There's also a chance that Cubs pitcher Jon Lieber will make a rehab start against the Cougars on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to get tickets now for best seating availability. Here's a look at the final regular season homestand of the season:
Friday, August 29 vs. Peoria - 6:30 p.m.
Friday's fun kicks off with a special (and timely) giveaway as the Cougars are handing out LUNCHBOXES for the first 2,000 kids age 14 and under, courtesy of Provena Mercy Medical Center. The ZOOPERSTARS make their final appearance of the season and are sure to dazzle. The mascot troupe has been a hit of late on national TV, being featured on the hit show "America's Got Talent". The cast of characters, including notable names such as Pee Wee Geese and Ken Giraffey, Jr. will be featured tonight at 7 p.m. CDT on NBC. Two nights later, they'll be right here at Elfstrom Stadium. After the game's conclusion, we turn off the lights and light up the sky with a FIREWORKS SHOW choreographed to rock music. Following the grand finale, we'll turn the lights back on so every fan has a chance to RUN THE BASES.
Saturday, August 30 vs. Peoria - 6 p.m.
Fans can come out to the yard early on Saturday as we're featuring a pre-game AUTOGRAPH SESSION with Cougars players, sponsored by Drumstick. Our guys want to meet the fans, and this is your chance to have that favorite t-shirt or baseball signed by a Cougar! Also before the game, we're conducting a BLOOD DRIVE at the ballpark. With the cooperation of Lifesource, fans will have the opportunity to contribute their blood to help someone in need. Saturday's excitement continues beyond the last out with a spectacular FIREWORKS SHOW. After the final boom, fans will have a chance to take a lap and RUN THE BASES, presented by Allstate.
Sunday, August 31 vs. Peoria - 6 p.m.
Due to the holiday weekend, the Cougars will feature a rare Sunday evening game to continue the homestand. Do you need more cowbell? We can take care of that problem as the first 2,000 fans receive a COWBELL courtesy of Dippin' Dots. There's a good chance that at least one of those cowbells will be signed by a Cougars player as fans can take part in a pre-game AUTOGRAPH SESSION. We're squeezing in some more excitement before the game as SKYDIVERS will make a dramatic landing on the field moments before the game's first pitch. After the game, the Cougars are serving up the final FIREWORKS show of 2008, set to â80's music. Lace up the shoes, stretch out your legs and RUN THE BASES after the show.
Monday, September 1 vs. Peoria - 1 p.m.
The calendar might turn, but we're not through as the Cougars are featuring some day baseball at Elfstrom Stadium. The final regular season game of the season is our FAN APPRECIATION DAY. Throughout the game, lucky seatholders will win valuable prizes compliments of the Cougars and various sponsors. Fans can take part in a pre-game AUTOGRAPH SESSION with Cougars players, who will be wearing special patriotic jerseys. Following the game, fans can RUN THE BASES.
Monday's game won't be the final Elfstrom Stadium contest in 2008. The Cougars are playoff-bound for the fourth time in their past six seasons. A best-of-3 series against a yet-to-be-determined opponent will begin on Wednesday, September 3 on the road. The Cougars are assured of at least one home playoff game, and that will be played on Thursday, September 4 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the final regular season homestand of the season, as well as the 2008 Midwest League Playoffs, can be ordered by calling the Cougars at (630) 232-8811 or visiting online at www.kccougars.com
