Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, IL -The Peoria Chiefs losing streak hit four games with a 2-1 loss to the visiting Clinton LumberKings on Wednesday night at O'Brien Field. The loss drops the Chiefs to 17 games under .500 for the first time since the 2001 season. After the pitchers controlled the first five innings of the contest the LumberKings scored the night's first run. Tim Smith homered on the second pitch of the inning from Peoria starter Kevin Kreier to put Clinton in front 1-0. Peoria did not take long in answering the Clinton run as they used a pair of two out hits to get the game back to even. Josh Harrison got the rally started with a two-out triple to the gap in right center field. Nate Samson blooped a single that just stayed fair down the first base line to score Harrison and tie the game 1-1. Clinton reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning against Chiefs reliever Craig Muschko. The number nine hitter Davis Stoneburner picked up a one-out base hit and moved to second on an infield single by Engel Beltre. An error by Jovan Rosa at third base allowed both runners to move up and load the bases. Smith came through with a sacrifice fly to drive in his second run of the night to score Stoneburner and put the LumberKings in front 2-1. The Chiefs had a perfect opportunity in the ninth inning to win the game. Rosa doubled for the second time in the game off Clinton reliever Chris Dennis to put the tying run in scoring position. Dennis then walked Luis Bautista and Rebel Ridling to load the bases with two outs. Dylan Johnston grounded out to short to end the game with the winning run in scoring position. Kreier took a tough no-decision despite allowing just one run over six innings of work. The right-hander allowed just six hits while striking out four and not walking a batter. Muschko took the loss as he allowed an unearned run on two hits in two innings of work. He struck out two and did not walk a batter. Vento worked one inning and allowed two hits but struck the last three batters he faced.

Player of the Game -Kevin Kreier (SP) - Kreier pitched six innings and allowed just one run on four hits while striking out four. Kreier had lost six straight decisions dating back to July 20 before getting a no-decision tonight.
