Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars provided 9,625 fans at Elfstrom Stadium with plenty of fireworks Tuesday night, beating the Dayton Dragons 12-4 with 18 hits. Each Cougars starter had at least one base hit, and Steve Kleen and Chad Boyd had four apiece.
Dayton scored twice in the second and once in the fourth against Cougars starter Trey Shields for a 3-0 deficit before the Cougars stormed back in the fourth against the Dragons' Robert Manuel on a two-run double by Frank Martinez.
The Cougars tied the game 3-3 in the fifth on Jeff Baisley's 66th RBI, a single that scored Toddric Johnson. Then after Dayton jumped ahead in the sixth, Steve Kleen responsed by plating Chad Boyd with a double for a 4-4 count. Shields left after six innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits while walking none and fanning four.
An eight-run outburst took the Cougars through the seventh and eighth innings and three Dragons pitchers. Kleen, Raul Padron and Jose Pineda each had two-run hits, and Baisley poked a tally-producing double for assistance. The pounding gave Jeff Gray (5-5) the win after his 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and Logan Ondrusek (3-3) the loss.
The Cougars (8-5) have won three in a row and continue against Dayton (6-7) Wednesday at noon CDT, as Vince Mazzaro (7-5, 5.00) squares off against Daniel Guerrero (0-1, 22.50).
