Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

More than 2,000 fans came out to C.O. Brown Stadium on Independence Day to watch the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays light up the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The Rays made it look easy as they won by a score of 10-4. They had another great hitting performance which was led by the fiery Cesar Suarez who has been the epitome of consistency.

In Tuesday night's contest, Suarez went 3-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. In his 35 games as a D-Ray he has the team high in batting average with .340 and in slugging percentage with .489. He trails only J.T. Hall and Garrett Groce with 14 doubles.

Groce also had a solid night at the plate by going 2-4 with an RBI and one run scored. Groce's RBI came in the bottom of the fourth inning when he blasted a double to right field which scored Suarez from first base.

Chris Cunningham saw his first action since before the All-Star break in his return from the DL. Cunningham, who played left field, went 2-3 with a walk and scored three runs.

Wade Davis took the mound for the Rays and surely appreciated the run support that he was given. Davis pitched 6.2 innings and fanned nine Wisconsin batters. His strikeout total now stands at 110 which is second only in the Midwest League to teammate Jake McGee. Davis gave up eight hits and four earned runs in the battle but was credited with the win. With the win, Davis ended his five game losing streak and improves his record to 5-6.

Davis left in the sixth inning due to a high pitch count and was relieved by Drew Bigda. Bigda hurled 1.1 innings of hitless ball and stuck out two with two walks. Eddie DeLaCruz finished out the game with a perfect ninth inning where he fanned two Timber Rattlers.

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays have now won four in row and look for five on Wednesday in the third of the four game series against Wisconsin. Wednesday night is NASCAR Night. Local race car driver Dan Frazier who will be featured on the reality series "Racin' for a Livin'" will be in attendance and signing autographs. Representatives from MIS will also be on hand with the MIS Show Car and with NEXTEL Cup and Indy tickets to give away to 2 lucky fans. The Devil Rays will also host Relay For Life's After Relay Celebration. Presented by MIS, WIN 98.5 and the Battle Creek Enquirer.
