South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend - After allowing 23 hits Monday night by the Beloit Snappers, the South Bend Silver Hawks needed a solid mound performance. For the third time in four starts, that is what they received from Cody Evans as the Hawks bounced back with a 2-0 shutout of the Beloit Snappers.
The Hawks were able to score a pair of runs in the third inning. With one away, Frank Curreri reached first base by walk. He came around to score when Greg Thomson drilled a double into the right center field gap to score Curreri and put the Hawks on top 1-0. After Pedro Ciriaco's line out to short, Leyson Septimo's three-bagger plated Thomson, giving the Hawks a 2-0 edge.
Meanwhile, for Cody Evans (5-7) it was the third straight game the southern California native threw eight innings. In the three games, Evans has picked up two wins and has a no decision to his credit. As well as throwing 24 innings over his last three starts, the right-hander has fanned 16 batters and over the course of his last five starts has retired 28 batters via strikeout.
The Silver Hawks (43-36, 10-3) continue their four game set against the Beloit Snappers Wednesday night with first pitch slated for 7 PM.
