Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill.- The Kane County Cougars (32-32) won their fifth consecutive home game with a 10-2 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (21-44) at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark Tuesday evening.

Marty Herum put the Cougars ahead in the first inning with an RBI double and they never looked back from there. Two innings later Chuck Taylor's RBI single doubled the lead and a throwing error by Wisconsin's catcher made it a 3-0 advantage. Of the three runs, two of them were earned against losing pitcher Devin Williams (2-4).

Brad Keller (3-7) didn't allow the Timber Rattlers to find the scoreboard until the sixth inning. The Cougar right-hander struck out seven batters over the first four frames and gave up two runs (one unearned) in the sixth for the his only damage.

In the eighth inning, the Cougars provided six runs of insurance. Joe Munoz led off the frame with a walk and later came home on Victor Reyes' second RBI of the day. Two batters later Ildemaro Vargas doubled home a pair of more runs. Herum, Colin Bray and Taylor all added more run scoring plays as the Cougars batted around and finished the eighth inning leading 10-2.

Relief pitching from the Cougars' end also tossed three perfect frames as Luis Ramirez, Cody Geyer and Nick Baker all hung zeroes.

The Cougars and Timber Rattlers continue the series on Wednesday. Markus Solbach (6-2, 2.76) will take the mound against Wisconsin's Cy Sneed (3-7, 2.62). First pitch from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com.
