Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, Wisc.- The Beloit Snappers fall to the Peoria Chiefs 6-1 in their first game back home after a long Eastern Division road trip.
Snappers' starting pitcher Junior Mendez had a strong first inning, going through the top of the order. Mendez would get into trouble in the second inning though. With one out in the top of the second Alex DeLeon would break his bat for a line drive shot down the first base line for a single. Steve Bean would drive in Danny Diekroeger off a blast into right field that led to a double. With runners at second and third Nick Thompson hit a ground ball to Yairo Munoz. He caught Steve Bean trying to run to third, but Alex DeLeon would score from third, putting the Chiefs up 2-0.
The Snappers' got the bats rolling in the bottom of the second though. Jose Brizuela led off in the inning with a deep double to the left field gap. The hits would continue in the inning, with Max Kuhn hitting a hard single up the middle to drive in Brizuela. With one run in and Max Kuhn on second the bats would start to struggle to get runs in as the Snappers trailed 2-1 at the end of two.
First basemen Alex DeLeon would get hot at the start of this series blasting a solo home run in the top of the 4th inning, extending Peoria's lead to 3-1.
He would tack on a single in the top of the sixth. Alex Deleon would finish the night going 3-for-3 with a walk. Also in the sixth, Nick Thompson singled on a ground ball to center field that brought in Oscar Mercado, making the score 4-1.
Peoria continued to increase their lead in the seventh, taking advantage of an error by Beloit's Sandber Pimentel. The Chiefs would add one more run when Oscar Mercado singled to the shortstop which allowed Darren Seferina to score.
Leaving runners on base would end up being the theme of the night for the Snappers, as they left eight on. Joe Bennie would lead the Snappers with hits going 2-for-4 as Beloit fell to Peoria by a score of 6-1.
Beloit's Junior Mendez suffered the loss and goes to 1-5 on the season as he pitched five innings, allowing four hits, three earned runs, and striking out two Chiefs. Peoria's Luis Perdomo gets the win and goes to 3-6 with a good performance of seven innings pitched, six hits, one earned run, and seven strikeouts.
