The Cougars will open the Midwest League Playoffs on the road Wednesday, September 3. The best-of-three series will continue on Thursday, September 4 and Friday, September 5 (if necessary) at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark, where the Cougars are 44-15 this season. If the Cougars were to advance to the second round, the best-of-three Western Division Championship Series would begin on Saturday, September 6 with home dates for that series to be determined. Overall record would dictate home field advantage for that round, and the Cougars' overall record of 72-43 currently leads the division by 10 games. The Midwest League Championship round is a best-of-five series that begins on Wednesday, September 10.

Earlier this season, the Cougars clinched the Midwest League's Western Division first half championship, marking the 14th playoff appearance in the 24-year history of the Cougars and the first time since 2009 that the Cougars have clinched a first half playoff spot.

Entering play this evening, the Cougars lead the Midwest League with a 72-43 record. With 25 games remaining, the Cougars are within reach to challenge the franchise record for most wins in a season, held by the 2001 Midwest League Champion Cougars squad which won 88 games. Earlier this week, Cougars pitcher Jen-Ho Tseng was named Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month, marking the fourth consecutive month in which a Cubs monthly organizational award has been given to a Cougars player this season. Catcher Will Remillard was named Cubs Minor League Player of the Month in April, pitcher Paul Blackburn was named Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month in May and pitcher Juan Paniagua, since promoted to Class-A Advanced Daytona, was named Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month for June.

The Cougars return home on Tuesday, August 12 for a three-game series against Quad Cities. Promotional highlights include an Albert Almora bobblehead giveaway for the first 1,500 fans, sponsored by Presence Mercy Medical Center on August 12, Bark in the Park on August 13 and NIU Night on August 14, which is a Thirsty Thursday with $1 select beers, sodas, and hot dogs. The August 14 game will also feature a post-game fireworks show. Regular season play concludes on Monday, September 1.
