Kane County Cougars News Release

APPLETON, Wisc. - Larry Cobb smoked a two-run homer, and Carlos Hernandez pitched seven innings for a quality start Monday afternoon as the Kane County Cougars beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 6-5, in front of 2,392 fans at Time Warner Cable Field. The Cougars led, 6-0, and then escaped danger in the ninth to pick up the victory. Now they have a chance to win the series by taking the finale Tuesday night.

Todd Johnson and Cobb had consecutive sacrifice flies in the fourth inning against Brett Lorin (0-2) to make it 2-0, and the Cougars broke the game open in the sixth with four runs against Jose Jimenez. Michael Richard doubled home Adam Klein and scored on a Johnson single for a 4-0 game, and Cobb cracked his 12th homer of the season with a two-run, opposite-field blast to make it 6-0.

Hernandez (4-0) won his fourth in as many starts as a Cougar. The southpaw was perfect through 3 2/3 innings and had a shutout through five. He allowed his only two tallies in the bottom of the sixth and left after a perfect seventh, scattering four hits, walking none and fanning five. Chad Kerfoot logged a scoreless eighth, and Leonardo Espinal yielded three runs in the bottom of the ninth before nailing down the victory.

The Cougars (22-27) and Timber Rattlers (15-35) conclude their series Tuesday night at 7:05 CT. Scott Deal (6-3, 4.08) will face Edward Paredes (6-10, 4.71).
