Prince George Cougars News Release
KAMLOOPS, BC-The Prince George Cougars opened their WHL pre-season with a 5-0 setback against the Kamloops Blazers at the Sandman Centre on Friday night.
It was a younger Cougars squad, as several returning players didn't make the trip down to the Central Interior and 12 rookies and prospects dressed for Prince George.
One bright spot was one of those prospects, as goaltender Tyler Brennan stopped 21 of 22 shots, including a first period penalty-shot, in his debut. Brennan, who doesn't turn 15 until late September, was drafted by the Cougars in the first-round, 21stoverall, in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.
Isaiah DiLaura spelled off Brennan midway through the second period and stopped 14 of 18 shots steered his way.
Kamloops broke a scoreless deadlock in the second, as they got goals from Orrin Centazzo (short-handed) and Logan Stankoven. Martin Lang, Carson Denomie (power-play) and Brodi Stuart scored in the third period for the Kamloops.
20-year-old Dylan Ferguson and 17-year-old Rayce Ramsay split the shutout for the Blazers, as the two combined for 24-saves.
The Cougars (0-1-0-0) pre-season continues tomorrow night in Kelowna (0-0-0-1), as they face the Rockets at Prospera Place; puck drop is 7 pm. The Rockets lost 6-5 in a shootout to the Victoria Royals on Friday.
