The Portland Winterhawks closed day two of their preseason slate with a 2-1 win against the Tri-City Americans. Despite taking a deficit into the first intermission, Portland was able to finish on a high note.

The Winterhawks took a penalty 30 seconds into the game, which resulted in the first goal of the morning. A Paycen Bjorklund shot rolled over the glove side hand of Evan Fradette and into the net.

In the final minutes of the first period, the Winterhawks had 5-on-3 powerplay for 95 second and registered 9 of their 18 period shots.

Offense would come late in the second period as WHL rookie Haydn Delorme scored his first of the preseason on a breakaway feed from Tyson Kozak to tie the game at one apiece.

The third period would go the Winterhawks way as veteran Ty Kolle scored the lone goal of the frame on a rocket of a shot from the left wing circle at the 13:28 mark of the final period. Forwards Conor MacEachern and Dean Schwenninger collected the assists on the play.

Evan Fradette would finish the game with 15 saves en route to his first victory of the season. Americans goaltender Beck Warm looked in mid-season form stopping 44 of 46 shots.
