Kane County Cougars News Release
BURLINGTON, Iowa-Despite falling behind early, the Kane County Cougars battled back to carry a lead into the eighth inning but couldn't hold it in a 7-4 loss to the Burlington Bees on Sunday afternoon at Community Field.
Trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning, the Cougars (62-63, 28-27) picked up their first hit against starter A.J. Cole as Alex Llanos singled Michael Antonio into scoring position. Chris Elder picked up a base hit to bring Antonio home. In the sixth inning, the Cougars tied the game as Jack Lopez singled and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Dean Espy. Espy came across the dish on an Antonio double to tie the game at 3-3.
Kane County kept the pressure on the Bees (63-61, 31-24) in the top of the seventh by taking the lead for the first time in the game. Llanos started the inning with a single against Seth Frankoff (5-7) and scored on a base hit by Elder. Jason Mitchell (4-6) was asked to protect the cushion in the bottom of the eighth, but he coughed up four runs.
Sean Jamieson walked to start the frame while Max Muncy singled. A groundout moved both runners up a base while Wade Kirkland was intentionally walked to load the bags for Bobby Crocker. Crocker came through with a two-base hit to score the tying and go-ahead runs. Burlington added two more tallies before David Macias (S, 6) in the ninth with a scoreless frame.
