Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (30-24, 61-62) beat the Lansing Lugnuts (28-25, 75-47) by a final of 9-2. Luigi Rodriguez led off the fifth inning by lining a pitch into the left field corner, and motored all the way around for an inside-the-park homerun to extend the Captains lead to 8-1. That was the final.
In the first inning, Lake County sent nine men to the plate and scored four times to take the early lead. Lake County had three doubles in the inning and two singles en route to the big inning. The big hit was a two run double by Jordan Smith. It was 4-0 headed to the second.
In the second Lake County added three runs. Bryson Myles singled home the final run one the inning to give the Captains a 7-0 lead. The Captains had a six run lead heading to the third. In the third inning, Lansing scored to get on the board. Andy Fermin doubled and eventually scored on a groundout by Chris Schaefer and the score was 7-1 Captains.
Lake County got a run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Zach MacPhee led of with a triple to right field. Yhoxian Medina grounded out and MacPhee scored to build the Lake County lead to 9-1. In the ninth, Lansing scored a run when Chris Schaffer singled. Later with one out, two men were walked and K.C. Hobson was hit by a pitch to plate the final run of the ballgame. Lake County won the game 9-2.
RHP Nick Pasquale (2-0) started the ballgame for the Captains. Pasquale did not get a decision. Nick pitched four innings, allowed two hits, one earned run and four strikeouts. Francisco Valera (5-3) earned the win after twirling four shutout innings. Valera did not allow a hit he walked one and struck out four. Harold Guerrero entered in the ninth inning and walked two, hit one batter and allowed one earned run.
RHP Blake McFarland (5-4) started the ballgame for Lansing and took the loss. McFarland lasted just one and one third innings, allowing eight hits, seven earned runs, two walks and one strikeout. The Lugnuts bullpen pitched six and two thirds innings, allowing six hits two earned runs and four strikeouts.
On Monday, The Captains will send LHP Shawn Morimando (6-4, 3.50) to the mound to face RHP Aaron Sanchez (8-3, 2.28) of the Lansing Lugnuts. First pitch will be at 7:00 PM.
