Lansing Lugnuts News Release
EASTLAKE, OH - The Lansing Lugnuts (28-25, 75-47) could not overcome a four-run first inning and a three-run second inning in a 9-2 loss to the Lake County Captains (30-24, 61-62) on Sunday afternoon at Classic Park in Ohio.
The Captains jumped out to an early 7-0 lead against Lugnuts starter Blake McFarland (Loss 5-4), who allowed eight hits and seven runs in 1 1/3 innings. The Captains sent nine hitters to the plate in the first inning and scored four runs on five hits and three doubles.
During the two-inning scoring barrage Jerrud Sabourin drove in a pair of runs for Lake County, Jordan Smith scored twice while recording two RBI, Bryson Myles drove in a pair, Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez both scored twice.
The Captains starter Nick Pasquale worked four innings, gave up two hits, walked none, allowed one run and struck out four.
Out of the Captains bullpen Francisco Valera (Win, 5-3) did not allow a hit in four scoreless innings while striking out three.
For the Lugnuts, Aleson Escalante worked 4 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. The righty allowed four hits, walked none and struck out two. He allowed just one run on an inside-the-park-homer to Luigi Rodriguez. Rodriguez hit a line drive into the leftfield corner that Lugnuts leftfielder Nick Baligod thought was out of play when it went under a bench in the bullpen. Both umpires ruled the ball in play, allowing Rodriguez to sprint around the bases for his tenth homer of the year.
Phil Brua struck out a pair and allowed just one run in two innings out of the Lugnuts' bullpen.
Andy Fermin recorded a double and scored a run. K.C. Hobson and Chris Schaeffer both recorded RBI.
