Kane County Cougars News Release
BURLINGTON, IA - The Kane County Cougars had one of their more forgettable games of the young season Wednesday night, falling to the Burlington Bees, 8-2, at Community Field and evening the four-game set at one apiece. The Cougars, who made three errors and allowed six unearned runs, snapped their winning streak at four games.
Starter Matt Fitts (0-3) suffered his third loss in as many outings. He gave up five runs -- two earned -- on five hits over three innings while walking and fanning two.
Down 5-0, the Cougars managed a run in the fifth off Brent Fisher on a Juan Nunez RBI single but missed scoring chances to get closer over the next three innings. Mike Hart tossed two scoreless innings after replacing Fitts, but the Bees pushed across three unearned runs off Scott Deal in the seventh to make it 8-1. The Cougars notched their final run in the ninth when Nunez scored on a balk. Manauris Baez (1-0) recorded the victory for the Bees.
The Cougars (8-4) and Burlington (3-8) continue their four-game series Thursday morning at 11:30 CDT. Shawn Haviland (1-0, 2.45) will face Bryan Casey (0-2, 4.70).
