Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Alfredo Silverio's two-run single in the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie as the Great Lakes Loons defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-3 on Wednesday night. The loss was the Dragons tenth straight, establishing a new franchise record.

The game marked the fifth time this season that the Dragons have lost a game decided by just one run. They fell to 1-11 on the year with the loss.

Great Lakes took an early lead with two runs in the first inning against Dragons starter Josh Ravin, but the Dragons battled back. Dayton got on the board in the fourth on a solo home run to left field by Cody Puckett, his second of the year and the first home run at home by a Dragons player this season.

In the fifth, the Dragons scratched across the tying run. Jordan Wideman hit a high fly ball to center field that Loons outfielder Elian Herrera lost in the twilight. Left fielder Alfredo Silverio sprinted over to straight-away center and got a glove on the ball but dropped it and Wideman went to second. Brandon Menchaca singled to right to move Wideman to third, and Wideman scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Ravin bounced back nicely after allowing the two runs in the first and left the game after five innings with the score tied. He allowed four hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.

Great Lakes answered with two runs in the top of the sixth against Dragons reliever Lance Janke. Silverio's one-out, two-run single put Great Lakes ahead 4-2.

The Dragons pulled to within one in the sixth inning. Puckett singled to left, went to second on Humberto Sosa's ground out, and scored on a two-out single by Byron Wiley to make it 4-3. But the Dragons collected just one hit, a single, over the final three innings as Great Lakes held on for the win.

Dayton finished with nine hits. Puckett was 2 for 4 with the home run. Menchaca also had two hits for Dayton.

Janke (0-1) suffered the loss. He worked four innings out of the bullpen, allowing three hits and two runs with one walk and three strikeouts.

Dayton's David Sappelt went 1 for 4 with a double, extending his hitting streak to nine straight games.

The Dragons and Loons meet in game three of the four game series at Fifth Third Field on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Dayton's Curtis Partch (0-1, 4.82) will start against Ethan Martin (2-0, 0.90) of Great Lakes. Martin was the 2008 national high school player of the year before being selected in the first round of the June draft by the Dodgers.

Notes: Dragons outfielder Tony Brown is expected to miss three games with a strained hamstring...Dayton starting pitcher Josh Ravin tied the club record for wild pitches in a game with four.
