Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - For the first time since June 19, the Kane County Cougars failed to score a run in a game at Elfstrom Stadium. With 11,054 fans on hand, the Cougars were shut out, 6-0, Friday night against the Cedar Rapids Kernels and ended their seven-game homestand at 4-3 after splitting four with the Kernels.

Jonathan Joseph (1-4) gave up two first-inning runs, and the Kernels never looked back. Joseph gave up one unearned run in fourth and lasted five innings in the loss. He yielded three runs -- two earned -- on four hits, walked three and fanned two. Kenny Smalley gave up two runs in two-plus frames, and A.J. Huttenlocker ceded one run over two innings.

The Cougars' offense came up with eight hits, the ninth straight game with at least that many, but also hit into three double plays. Anthony Aliotti was the lone Cougar with multiple hits, though Conner Crumbliss and Rashun Dixon extended their hitting streaks to seven and nine, respectively.

The Cougars (23-17, 55-54) start a seven-game road trip Saturday night at 6:30 CT when they open a four-game series in Iowa against the Burlington Bees (15-23, 37-70). Chris Mederos (3-3, 2.10) is scheduled to face Dusty Odenbach (6-8, 4.33). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online at www.kccougars.com with pre-game coverage starting at 6:15 p.m.
