Clinton LumberKings News Release

Davenport, IA - Two of the newest members of the Clinton roster paved the way to a four-game sweep of the Quad Cities River Bandits with a 9-6 victory at Modern Woodmen Park. Mickey Wiswall lined a two-run single to right in the third inning to erase a 4-3 deficit, helping right-hander Yoervis Medina win in his LumberKings' debut.

Medina was given a 3-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Mario Martinez and two-run single by James Jones, but would fall on hard times in the bottom of the frame. He served up a two-run double to Frederick Parejo and a two-run homer to Rainel Rosario as the Bandits took a 4-3 lead.

That would be the only rough patch for Medina (W, 1-0), who allowed just the four runs on seven hits and tied a career-high with nine strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Wiswall would make him a winner with a single to right in the third, scoring both Tim Morris and Vinnie Catricala for a 5-4 lead. The hit was his first as a LumberKing and came on the first pitch from Bandits' ace right-hander Shelby Miller.

Two innings later, Catricala added a towering two-run drive over the berm in left for his 11th home run of the season, extending the lead to 7-4 and chasing Miller from the game. Miller (L, 5-5) was hammered for seven runs on nine hits over 5.0 innings by the constant Clinton onslaught.

Quad Cities scored twice more as C.J. Beatty doubled and scored on an infield single by Ted Obregon in the seventh and Parejo lifted a solo homer to left in the ninth, but right-handers Stephen Pryor (H, 1) and Brandon Josselyn combined for just those two runs over 3.0 innings.

Catricala finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, finishing the series 9-for-18 with two homers and five RBI. Jones added three RBI on 2-for-5 hitting and Wiswall went 2-for-5 with his first two RBI in just his second game with Clinton.

Parejo had the hot hand for the Bandits, going 2-for-3 with the double, homer and three RBI.

The four-game sweep was Clinton's first this season and just their fourth of any length this season. The LumberKings (21-18) have won seven of the last eight games and lead the West Division Wild Card by a half game.

Up next is the opener of a four-game series against Wisconsin tomorrow night at Alliant Energy Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Right-hander Tom Wilhelmsen (1-0, 0.00) makes his second start. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
