Burlington Bees News Release

Beloit, WI - The Bees led by a pair with two outs in the ninth inning on Friday night. One swing of the bat from Beloit's Lance Ray with the bases loaded turned that around, powering the Snappers to a 5-4 win over the Bees at Pohlman Field.

With two outs in the ninth, the Snappers' threat appeared to lose some of its bite when Derek McCallum went down on strikes against Bees closer Ryan Dennick (L, 3-4). However, the southpaw then walked catcher Josmil Pinto, affording Lance Ray an opportunity to bat with the winning run on base. Ray, already 2-for-3 on the night, sliced a fly ball into left-center that arced away from Bees center fielder Whit Merrifield and caromed off of the fence. The first two runs scored with ease, and Pinto slid in ahead of a relay throw that sailed wide of the plate to send a crowded Pohlman Field into a frenzy and give Beloit a four-game series sweep.

The meltdown erased a stellar outing from Sugar Ray Marimon, who established new season highs for innings pitched and strikeouts with seven each. The Colombian native allowed two runs on five hits with a walk before being lifted in favor of Mitch Hodge, who pitched in with a scoreless eighth to earn his fourth hold.

Merrifield's offensive heroics carried the Bees attack, as he drilled his second home run in the third and knocked home a pair with a single in the fifth to put his team up four. Newcomer Ben Theriot, in his second game since joining the Bees from Double-A Northwest Arkansas, led the squad with three hits.

The Bees open a four-game series against Kane County at Community Field on Saturday night with Friends and Family Night. Gates open at 5:30 for the 6:30 contest.
