Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - Two errors on one play in the top of the seventh inning helped draw the Peoria Chiefs back as they prevailed over the Kane County Cougars in a 4-3 ballgame on Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Trailing 3-1 entering the seventh, the Chiefs (11-16) put their first two men on base off reliever Matt Ridings (1-1) with a double and bunt single. Yaniel Cabezas hit a bouncer to short that Orlando Calixte threw down the right field line. Jorge Bonifacio then had some trouble picking up the loose ball as Rafael Lopez and Oliver Zapata scored on the play to tie the game at 3-3. On the next pitch, Marco Hernandez singled to left, scoring Cabezas and putting Peoria up by a run.
Kane County (12-15) carried the initial advantage as Justin Trapp reached on an error in the bottom of the first and scored on a base hit by Lane Adams. Peoria evened the game in the second against Edwin Carl with two singles and a wild pitch to bring home Paul Hoilman. That was the only run surrendered by Carl, who fanned five in his six innings.
Tim Ferguson put the Cougars on top in the fourth against starter Jose Rosario with an RBI single to score Murray Watts, but Henry Moreno was thrown out at home by Taiwan Easterling. Ferguson also doubled Watts to the dish in the sixth. Austin Reed (1-2) worked 2.1 scoreless innings out of the Peoria bullpen while Jeffrey Lorick (S, 3) left two men on the bases in the bottom of the ninth as Calixte grounded out to end the contest.
