Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
South Bend, IN - Tyler Goeddel and Alejandro Segovia both had two hits, but a late Bowling Green Hot Rods (15-12) comeback attempt fell short as the South Bend Silver Hawks (16-11) won 5-3 on Thursday night at Coveleski Stadium. The Hot Rods loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth, but Silver Hawk pitcher Matt Sample was able to pitch out of the jam for his first save of the season.
The Hot Rods took advantage of early wildness by South Bend starter Archie Bradley and scored the game's first run in the top of the first. However, the Silver Hawks scored the game's next five tallies. Scoring a run in both the sixth and seventh, the Hot Rods chipped away at the South Bend lead and trailed 5-3 entering the top of the ninth inning.
Attempting to at least score two runs to tie the score in the ninth, Taylor Motter began the inning with a walk that was followed by singles from Goeddel and Ryan Brett. The bases were loaded with no outs for Drew Vettleson, who struck out. The next batter was Todd Glaesmann, who grounded out into a double play to clinch the win for the Silver Hawks in the middle game of the three-game set.
For the final time in the first half of the season, the Silver Hawks host the Hot Rods at Coveleski Stadium on Friday night at 7:35 PM. Friday night's game brings the series and the Hot Rods ten-day, nine-game road trip to a close. Bowling Green will send RHP Trevor Shull (0-0, 4.50) to the mound to face South Bend's RHP Jeff Shields (0-3, 3.30).
Join Hank Fuerst for the Forever Communications Pre-Game Show at 5:45 PM CDT on the flagship station for the Hot Rods Radio Network, 1340-AM "The Ticket", or tune in to the game online at 1340wbgn.com.
The Hot Rods return home on Saturday night to open a four-game set with the Lake County Captains at 7:05 PM. Saturday features a post-game Fireworks Extravaganza at Bowling Green Ballpark as Candlewood Suites and WBKO host another installment of their Fantastic Fireworks Series.
