Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The troubles continued on Thursday night for the Clinton LumberKings as they lost a late lead and dropped another to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Clinton led 2-1 as the game went to the top of the eighth inning but Wisconsin exploded for seven runs in the frame and escaped with an 8-2 win.

Ambioris Hidalgo turned in his best start of the year for the LumberKings but was the tough-luck loser, dropping his record to 1-3 on the year. The right-hander worked seven innings and left with a 2-1 lead but left two on when he exited in the eighth. John Taylor was summoned from the 'pen and couldn't pitch out of the jam. He allowed both of Hidalgo's runners to score and then five more as the Timber Rattlers sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning.

Drew Gagnon was equally tough on the mound for Wisconsin. The right-hander came in with a 0.64 ERA in five starts and threw seven innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and retired the final 14 batters he faced. Gagnon picked up the win and improved to 3-0 for the Timber Rattlers.

After knocking in two runs for Wisconsin in Wednesday night's win over Clinton, Greg Hopkins was at it again on Thursday night. The first baseman hit a solo home run in the second inning and had two more hits along the way en route to three RBI on the night.

Kyle Hunter worked in relief of Taylor for the LumberKings and pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball. The left-hander has not allowed a run since April 17 and has thrown eight consecutive scoreless innings.

Clinton tries to salvage a game in the finale tomorrow night against Wisconsin. It's Morrison P.T.O. Night, Strides for Clinton County Autism Night and Post-Game Fireworks presented by Jewel-Osco and WQAD-TV. Right-hander Stephen Landazuri (3-0, 1.86) takes the mound for Clinton and is opposed by righty Mark Williams (0-3, 3.47). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
