Cougars Can\'t Come Back From Early Deficit

Geneva, IL – The Kane County Cougars lost their fourth straight game and third at home Wednedsay afternoon, 5-3 against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Kane County fell behind 4-0 after the top of the first and never rebounded.

The four runs came off Cougars starter Ryan Webb, who allowed a two-run homer to Marshall Hubbard for the latter pair of tallies before settling down to last five innings. He scattered 10 hits, walked three and struck out three.

Reliever Keith Perez gave up an unearned run in the seventh before the Cougars got on the board in the bottom half. Myron Leslie singled, Eddie Kim was hit by a pitch and Nick Blasi reached on a fielder's choice before Travis Chapman singled to make it 5-1. Kane County managed two more in the eighth on a run-scoring hit by Leslie and an RBI groundout by pinch-hitter Tommy Everidge. The 5-3 game became the final.

Webb (3-4) took the loss and Mark Lowe (3-3) tossed six shutout frames for the win. Craig James got his fifth save.

The two teams conclude the four-game series Thursday night at 6 CDT. Ryan Ford (5-2, 4.47) takes the mound for the Cougars (20-25) against right-hander Aaron Jensen (2-4, 3.97) for the Rattlers (26-20).
