Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, BC - Chase Wheatcroft scored his career high 40th WHL goal, and Tyler Brennan earned his second shutout of the season to give the Prince George Cougars a 6-0 win over the Vancouver Giants at the CN Centre on Tuesday.
Chase Wheatcroft and Riley Heidt led the way offensively for the Cougars, combining for seven points in the win. Koehn Ziemmer, Jaxsen Wiebe, Hudson Thornton, and Caden Brown also all added goals in the win.
Ziemmer gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead at 11:28 on the power-play, one-timing one in off a terrific setup from Riley Heidt and Chase Wheatcroft. Prince George got some brilliant goaltending and penalty killing in the first, killing off four Vancouver power-plays.
In the second, Jaxsen Wiebe extended the lead to 2-1, ripping one off the post and in from the right circle at 13:17. Riley Heidt tripled the Cougars lead at 19:12 with a one-time blast on the power-play to make it 3-0.
PG continued to add to the lead in the final period.
Hudson Thornton made it 4-0 on the power-play at 3:08 with a wrist shot from the right circle. Chase Wheatcroft, a few moments later, netted home his 40th of the season at 11:56 courtesy of Jaxsen Wiebe forcing a turnover and then finding Wheatcroft at the left circle.
"The only reason I get that goal is because of the work Jaxsen did and it made it pretty easy for me to put that in," commented Wheatcroft.
Caden Brown was able to make it 6-0 at 15:49 and put the game out of reach.
