Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
MOOSE JAW S.K. - The Brandon Wheat Kings' offense was on full display Wednesday night after winning 7-3.
It didn't start well for the Wheat Kings with Jagger Firkus turning over the puck placing a shot passed Nick Jones to make it 1-0 Warriors. The Wheat Kings would answer on the powerplay with Nate Danielson firing a shot which would go off the skate of Nolan Flamand and in to tie it up. The Wheat Kings would continue the stellar first period peppering Warriors goaltender Jackson Unger with shots. Rylen Roersma would score not just once but would join the 4th line for a shift and score 90 seconds later to make it 3-1 Wheat Kings after one. Shots on goal 18-7 Wheat Kings which would be a first period record for most shots on goal.
The second period was a carbon copy of the first. Martin Rysavy for the Warriors would score 1:28 into the period to cut the Wheat Kings lead, but then the Wheat Kings would add 3 more goals. Nate Danielson would redirect a Quinn Mantei shot to restore the two-goal lead. That would do it for Warriors goaltender Jackson Unger who was replaced by Justen Maric.
Then with under 15 minutes remaining in the 2nd, Ben Thornton would steal the puck, take off on a breakaway and beat Maric to give the Wheat Kings a 5-2 lead. The 4th line would go to work late in the period with Caleb Hadland finding Anthony Wilson giving Wilson his third point of the night to make it 6-2 Wheat Kings. Jagger Firkus would make things interesting scoring with under 1 second remaining in the 2nd period cutting the Wheat Kings lead in half but the Wheat Kings would put a cap on the game with Rylen Roersma scoring his first career hatrick with a goal that went off Ryder Korczak's stick and in making it 7-3 which would be the final.
