Couch Potatoes Spudder in Debut

Hickory, NC - The Crawdads, playing as their alternate identity of the Hickory Couch Potatoes, lost to the Bowling Green Hot Rods 6-4 on Thursday night.

The 'Dads struck first in the third inning, taking a 2-0 lead. Frainyer Chavez drew a walk to start things off. Blaine Crim drove a ball to left and Chavez beat the throw home to score the inning's first run. Trey Hair drew a walk to put runners on first and second. David Garcia grounded out but was able to advance both runners on the basepaths. Jonathan Ornelas hit a two-out grounder to third. The third baseman struggled to field the ball cleanly and Crim was able to score from third before Hair was tagged out advancing to third.

Bowling Green scored 5 in the top of the 4th and added a run in the 5th to take a 6-2 lead over the 'Dads. Crawdads starter Cody Bradford pitched 3.2 innings, yielding 5 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Joe Corbett took over, tossing two innings, allowing one run.

The 'Dads cut into the deficit in the sixth as they got two runs back. Jonathan Ornelas struck out but was able to reach first as the ball got by the Bowling Green catcher. Miguel Aparicio didn't waste the opportunity, sending a 1-2 pitch over the right field wall.

Tai Tiedemann and Jean Casanova combined for 3.1 scoreless innings for the Crawdads to finish off the game.

The Couch Potatoes will return tomorrow evening for a 7pm game. The night will be capped off with a spudtacular fireworks show presented by Weichert Realtors- Team Metro and Kicks 103.3.
