CornBelters fall to Rascals

Normal CornBelters News Release

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, had their bats go ice cold on a chilly night at the Corn Crib, falling to the River City Rascals by a score of 2-1. Doug Shields (4-0) picked up the complete game win for the Rascals, while Brenden Smith (2-5) suffered a tough loss.

For the second night in a row the 'Belters got on the board in the opening frame as leadoff man Ty Wiesemeyer scored on a Steven Felix triple off the wall in center field to give Normal an early 1-0 advantage.

The Rascals got on the board in the top of the 4th with a run of their own when Jeremy Synan scored on a bases loaded wild pitch from Smith knotting the game up at 1-1.

Two innings later, in the top of the 6th, River City grabbed the lead on an unearned run when Charlie Lisk came across on a suicide squeeze by Matt Serna.

Shields would need no more as he shut down the 'Belter offense over the final eight frames to give the Rascals the victory.

The series continues Saturday night at the Corn Crib as Normal sends Drew Provence (3-2, 4.85 ERA) to the mound to face off against River City's Liam Ohlmann (0-2, 6.75 ERA). Pregame begins on WJBC.com at 6:20.

Reggy the Purple Party Dude will be on hand to entertain the crowd on this State Farm Super Saturday! Prudential will have a concourse table as well!
