RiverHawks Acquire Rookies
August 10, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Rockford RiverHawks News Release
LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks have added two rookies.
The RiverHawks announced on Friday that they have picked up infielder Trevor Whyte and outfielder Jimmy Parque from Las Cruces of the semi-pro Pecos League in a trade for future considerations. The RiverHawks also placed infielder Carlos Luciano on the 14-day disabled list.
Whyte finished his college career last year at California-Santa Barbara, where he hit .235 with four home runs and 29 RBI. Whyte hit .325 with 12 homers and 62 RBI this summer with Las Cruces.
Parque hit .358 with four homers and 47 RBI in 2010, his senior season at St. John's University. He was a two-time juco all-American at Skyline Junior College. The Las Angeles Dodgers drafted him in the 40th round in 2008, but he did not sign. Parque hit .324 with eight homers and 59 RBI with Las Cruces. He is the cousin of former Chicago White Sox pitcher Jim Parque.
Luciano is on the DL, retroactive to Tuesday, because of a shoulder injury. He has not played since July 31.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, an independent professional baseball league in its 20th season. Games are broadcast live on WNTA (100.5 FM). Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
