Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, took the first of three games against the Road Warriors, 4-1.

Pitching and timely hitting were key for Washington, as they took the first game of the three game series on Friday night.

After Gary Lee struck out the side with nine pitches in the top of the first, an RBI single by Jovan Rosa gave the Wild Things a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Lee's first inning set the pace for his entire outing; he looked sharp throughout his 6.2 innings of work, allowing only one run on four hits walking two. Lee fanned eight over his outing.

Lee's performance earned him his fifth victory of the season, placing him second on the team in that category.

In the bottom of the fourth, Washington added two runs to their lead giving them a 3-0 lead. Darian Sandford ripped a two-run single up the middle to score Shain Stoner and Jim Vahalik.

Sheng-An Kuo started for the Road Warriors, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.2 innings pitched. Kuo remains winless, falling to 0-8 on the season.

The Road Warriors were able to get on the board in the top of the seventh to pull within two. An RBI single by Will Arnold gave the Road Warriors their first run of the game.

Washington fired back with a run in the bottom of the seventh to regain their three run lead. Sandford scored on a throwing error by reliever Greg Hendrix.

Wild Things led 4-1 after seven.

The bullpen finished off the last two innings for Washington, and Orlando Santos picked up his eighth save of the season after pitching a clean ninth.

The Wild Things will play game two of their three game series against the Road Warriors tomorrow night, with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available and can be purchased by visiting www.washingtonwildthings.com, the CONSOL Energy Park box office, or by calling 866-456-WILD.
