Normal CornBelters News Release

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, proved there's no place like home in their return to the Corn Crib following a 12-game road trip, by overpowering the Evansville Otters 6-0 Monday night. Justin Albert (1-2) took the win for Normal, surrendering only two hits in six shutout innings, while Ryan Krumlauf picked up his first save of the season.

The 'Belters jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage when centerfielder Alvaro Ramirez tripled to lead off the bottom half of the 1st and scored two batters later on a double steal.

Shortstop Pat McKenna registered Normal's second run in the 3rd when he crossed the plate on an Evansville error. McKenna continued his hot hitting by driving in second baseman Sean Wilson and Ramirez with an RBI single in the 4th and sending a towering homerun over the wall in left center field in the 6th, extending the 'Belter lead to 5-0.

Normal would add some insurance in the 8th when back-to-back doubles by 3rdbaseman Chico Gomez and Wilson pushed the advantage to 6-0.

Game two of the series will feature RHP Daniel Britt (1-2, 4.18) for Normal, while LHP Garrett Bullock (0-2, 3.42) will take the ball for Evansville.

Tuesday is a CornBelters Reading Program Night! Students can redeem their earned vouchers for tickets for themselves and family/friends to any Tuesday game. It's also "Two for Tuesday" -- 2 hot dogs and 2 sodas for the price of one. All kids are invited to run the bases after the game.
