SAUGET, IL - Starter Tim Brown fired seven and a third innings and the Gateway Grizzlies provided just enough offense to pick up a 5-1 win against the River City Rascals Monday night at GCS Ballpark. The win was the fourth in a row for Gateway, their longest winning streak of the season.

Brown (2-2) pitched into the seventh inning for the fifth time in five starts this season. He gave up just one run on three hits while striking out three and walking six.

Gateway (11-11) picked up a run in the first inning for the third straight game to take an early lead. Jerod Yakubik hit an RBI single that brought home Antone DeJesus.

Vladimir Frias led off the second with a double, stole third and then came home on a Landon Hernandez RBI groundout to make it 2-0 Grizzlies.

Chris McClendon collected a two-run home run in the fourth inning, his second of the season, to give the Grizzlies a four-run lead against his former team.

A River City (14-8) wild pitch allowed the Grizzlies to score a run in the seventh inning and former Grizzlie Charlie Lisk drove in a run to give the Rascals their only run of the game in the eighth.

Yakubik paced the Grizzlies offense going 2-for-4, while Reamy fired one and two thirds scoreless innings to finish off the game for Gateway pitching.

The Grizzlies and Rascals play the middle game of the series on Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark. Rookie right-hander Jonathan Gonzalez (1-1) gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
