Rascals Lose Third-Straight; Fall at Gateway 5-1

River City Rascals News Release


Sauget, Ill. - River City did not get a base runner past second until the eighth inning and the Gateway Grizzlies got a two-run homer from former Rascal Chris McClendon en-route to a 5-1 win in the first of 12 games between the cross-town rivals in 2012.

Gateway (11-11) took a 1-0 lead in the first and stretched it to 2-0 in the second before McClendon crushed his second homerun of the season to centerfield for a 4-0 lead.

Grizzlie starter Tim Brown (2-2), a Clayton High School product, held River City (14-8) to three hits and one run despite six walks over 7 1/3 innings. The Rascals got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning with a Charlie Lisk single that scored Curran Redal after he pinch-ran for Eric Williams following a one out walk.

The Rascals are back in action tomorrow night against Gateway with first pitch set for 7:05. River City will send Chandler Barnard (0-0, 7.94) to the mound against Jonathan Gonzalez (1-1, 2.31) for the Grizzlies.

NOTES:

-Eric Williams extended his on-base streak to 21 games with an 8th inning walk
