Corbeil Closes Door on Walleye

Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - Mathieu Corbeil waited a little more than a week to make his ECHL debut with the Wheeling Nailers, but on Saturday night, he made sure the wait was worth it. The rookie backstop was perfect on 39 shots, and fellow rookie Ben Duffy potted a pair of goals, as the Nailers hooked the Toledo Walleye, 3-0 at WesBanco Arena.
For the fourth game in a row, the Nailers drew first blood in the opening period. However, this first goal had a different feel to it, as hundreds of teddy bears found their way onto the ice, as part of the annual Teddy Bear Toss. The teddy bear goal was scored on a delayed penalty to Toledo, as Zack Torquato jumped off of the bench as the extra attacker, hooking up with Anton Zlobin in the right circle. Zlobin let a wrist shot fly, beating Jared Coreau in the left side of the net.
Midway through the second period, Wheeling added to the lead, courtesy of a shorthanded goal. Torquato sprung Ben Duffy into the offensive zone on a partial breakaway. Duffy improved his angle as he skated in, before slipping a shot through Coreau's legs for his first professional tally.
With three minutes gone by in the third period, the Nailers tacked on one more insurance goal. Wheeling worked the puck around the perimeter, as Paul Cianfrini set up Mike Ratchuk for a shot from the right point. Coreau made the save, but the rebound kicked out to Duffy, who deposited his second of the evening, clinching a 3-0 victory for the home team.
Mathieu Corbeil was perfect in his ECHL debut, earning the shutout with 39 saves for the Nailers. Jared Coreau took the loss for Toledo, making 26 saves on 29 shots.
The Nailers are now 8-0-1 in their last nine games, and tied the mark for the second most points in a single month in team history, posting a 10-3-2 record for 22 points.
Wheeling will be home again on Sunday, when they take on the Cincinnati Cyclones at 3:00.
