Eagles Pick up Point in 4-3 Overtime Loss to Reign

ONTARIO, Calif. -The Colorado Eagles (11-3-3-0) pick up one point with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Ontario Reign (13-2-1-4) at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Saturday night.

The first period was scoreless but Colorado got off to a good start as they took the first four shots-on-goal on the best team in the Pacific Division and the Eagles killed off the only penalty in the first frame.

Despite being outshot 13-8, the Eagles found the back of the net first, 7:58 into the second frame. Eagles forward Ray Sawada beat Reign netminder Michael Hutchinson from the center of the circle on a quick breakaway to give Colorado the 1-0 lead. Ontario retaliated 11:40 into the second as forward Kyle Kraemer wrapped around the Eagles net to tie the game, 1-1. Just about four minutes later Reign forward Matt White sent a blistering shot past Eagles goalie Marc Cheverie to put Ontario ahead, 2-1. With less than thirty seconds left in the second defenseman Isaac Smeltzer scored his first goal of the season to tie the game again, 2-2.

The Eagles got back on top, 3-2, 7:13 into the third, with a backhanded shot past Hutchinson from forward Jonathan Parker. Reign forward Derek Couture was quick to answer with a goal from the top of the crease, a little over thirty seconds later, to tie the game 3-3.

Regulation time ended with the 3-3 tie and with less than 10 seconds left in overtime Kraemer scored his second goal of the night off of a loose puck between the hashes to get the 4-3 overtime win for the Reign.
