Copeland Wins Again as Bisons Top Pigs
August 26, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
Matt Hague isn't the only Bisons player chasing a crown.
Scott Copeland continued his push for an International League ERA title and potentially Rookie of the Year status by allowing just two runs over six innings in Buffalo's 4-2 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Copeland's ERA for the season now stands at 2.46, just nine points shy of Charlotte's Erik Johnson for the top mark in the IL. His effort on Wednesday also gives the Bisons' righty 11 wins, 2nd-best in the IL and the most for a Herd hurler since 2010.
Copeland allowed a pair of second-inning runs to the IronPigs before shutting down the Lehigh Valley offense. He retired seven of the last eight batters he faced and yielded just three hits in four innings after the Pigs scored twice in the second.
That gave the Bisons enough time to rally for the victory and snap their four-game losing streak. Buffalo cut the lead in half in the fifth as Jon Diaz raced home from second base when Lehigh Valley threw away an attempted doubleplay. In the seventh, Jon Berti clubbed a two-run home run to left field to give the Bisons the lead.
Chris Heisey added a solo shot to lead off the ninth inning for insurance. For both Heisey and Berti, the home runs were their second of the season.
Up 4-2, Steve Delabar worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts for his first save of the season.
The Bisons will now return to Buffalo for the start of the final homestand of the season. A seven-game stretch will begin with the team's popular Mystery Ball Night on Thursday night against Pawtucket (7:05 p.m.).
BISONS NOTES:
Wednesday marked the first time since August 6 the Bisons hit two home runs in one game...Matt Hague hit his 32nd double of the season in a 1-for-4 night at the plate...Scott Copeland will need to pitch 2.2 more innings for his ERA to 'qualify' for the season under International League guidelines.
