SYRACUSE, NY - A.J. Cole surrendered one run in 6.2 innings one night after the Red Wings recorded a season-high 20 hits as the Syracuse Chiefs beat Rochester 4-1 Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium.

Cole (5-5) allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out seven. The Red Wings (67-64) only threatened twice in the game. In the seventh with Kennys Vargas on first base following a walk, Danny Ortiz struck out but reached on a wild pitch with two outs to extend the inning. Cole was lifted in favor of Matt Grace who gave up an RBI single to Eric Fryer to put Rochester on the board. Oswaldo Arcia, representing the tying run, struck out on three ptiches to end the inning.

The Red Wings once again would bring the tying run to the plate with two outs in the ninth inning after Xavier Avery was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Ortiz singled with two outs. Fryer grounded out to end the game against Chiefs (59-72) closer Sammy Solis, who earned his second save.

Pat Dean (10-11) extended his scoreless stretch to 18.0 straight innings before former Wing Darin Mastroianni's RBI single with one out in the third gave Syracuse a 1-0 lead. The Chiefs would add three more on four singles and a walk in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-0.

Alex Meyer tossed 2.0 hitless innings with a hit batter and three strikeouts in relief to keep the Wings in the game. Aaron Thompson did not allow a hit and stranded an inherited runner with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless eighth.
