PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos (19-10) scored in six of the eight innings that they came to bat against the Biloxi Shuckers (14-15) as they topped Biloxi 11-2 on Saturday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
The Shuckers took their only lead of the night three batters into the game. Dillon Thomas connected for a solo home run to right off RHP Randy Dobnak, Thomas' third home run of the year, to put the Shuckers up 1-0. Pensacola would tie the game in the bottom of the first with a pair of doubles against RHP Bowden Francis (L, 0-2).
Home runs by Mitchell Kranson and Travis Blankenhorn extended the Blue Wahoos lead to 4-1 going to the fourth inning. Biloxi was able to pull within two runs thanks to a sacrifice fly by Alexander Alvarez, scoring Luis Aviles Jr. from third to make it 4-2.
Pensacola widened their advantage again in the fifth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Miguel Sano and plated four runs in the sixth on three walks, two hits and a fielding error, opening a 9-2 lead. The final runs came in the seventh on a two-RBI single from Ernie De La Trinidad, putting Pensacola in front 11-2.
RHP Adam Bray (W, 2-1) allowed just two base runners in his two innings of work. LHP Tyler Jay (S, 1) pitched the final three frames for the Blue Wahoos and didn't allow a Shuckers runner to advance into scoring position.
Biloxi now squares off against the Blue Wahoos in a rubber match on Sunday at 1:05 pm to close out their ten-game road trip. The Shuckers will send RHP Alec Bettinger (0-2, 8.34) to the mound against Blue Wahoos RHP Griffin Jax (1-0, 0.66).
