Condors Weekly: Wrapping Up 2009 In First Place

Bakersfield, Calif. -The Bakersfield Condors split a two-game holiday weekend series against divisional rivals, which included the second-largest crowd of the season on Saturday night, and a narrow victory in Ontario on Sunday. They close 2009 with a Tuesday night game in Stockton and start up 2010 with a Saturday game in Condorstown.

With a record of 19-8-2-0 and 40 points in the standings, Bakersfield remains in first place in the Pacific Division. They hold an 11-point lead over the second place Ontario Reign and a 15-point lead over the Stockton Thunder and Las Vegas Wranglers, who are tied for third place.

The Stockton Thunder managed just 16 shots on goal, while surrendering 42, but eked out a 3-1 victory over the Condors on Saturday night. It was the first home loss for Bakersfield since Oct. 30, snapping a team-record 10-game home winning streak. F Stephane Goulet notched his 9th goal of the season, running his goal streak to three games.

Sunday, Dec. 27

Condors 3 vs. ONTARIO 2

Newly acquired RW Ryan Menei scored once and added an assist in his first game with the team, while G Josh Johnson stopped 26 shots in his Condors debut to lead Bakersfield to a 3-2 win in Ontario. It was the first win in three tries at Citizens Business Bank Arena for the Condors, who also received goals from LW Shawn Weller and D Eric Regan.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

- The Condors went 25-11-0-3 on home ice in the 2009 calendar year, a.679 win percentage. With one road game remaining in 2009, the Condors have compiled an overall record of 41-24-3-3 for the year, a.620 win percentage.

- F Stephane Goulet has a four-game point streak (4g-2a).

- D Sasha Pokulok has a four-game point streak (1g-3a) and has a point in five of the last six games, and has nine goals and 21 points this season.

- G Josh Johnson improved to 3-1-0 on the season with his victory on Sunday. He was signed by the Condors on Dec. 9, and had gone 2-1-0 with Gwinnett earlier this season before joining the Condors.

- G Timo Pielmeier had started 11 consecutive games for Bakersfield prior to Sunday.

- The Condors have out-shot their opponents in 24 of their 29 games.

ON THE DOCKET:

The Condors head to Stockton to take on the Thunder Tuesday night, with a 7 p.m. start from Stockton Arena.

They return to home ice after the New Year to host the Ontario Reign on Saturday, Jan. 2 for Make Over Giveaway Night, sponsored by Bright House Networks and American Laser Centers. Adults, 18 and older, have a chance to win a free non-invasive make over package that includes Microderm face treatment, tightening and shaping and laser hair removal and more, valued at over $8,000. Everyone can also enjoy Dollar Dog Night - with hot dogs for just $1. NEW YEAR'S HOURS

The Condors office will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 31 and Friday, Jan. 1 in observance of the New Year's holiday. It will close at the regular time of 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30 and re-open on Saturday, Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. The Rabobank Arena box office will be open on Dec. 31 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. but will be closed on Jan. 1.

Individual game tickets are on sale and may be purchased through the Rabobank Arena Box Office, which is regularly open from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday with extended hours on game days.
