(Boise, ID) - In conjunction with the Idaho Steelheads and Idaho IceWorld, Qwest Arena will hold a free "Learn to Skate Day" on January 2 at the downtown Boise venue.

Learn to Skate Day will feature skating instructors from Idaho IceWorld showing people how to skate. It begins at 1 PM and goes until 3 PM. Qwest Arena does have a limited supply of skates that participants can use for free on a first-come, first-served basis. The Steelheads' mascot, Blue, will also be on hand.

This event is separate from the annual Qwest Free Skate Day, which is scheduled for February 28.

"We want to see the arena covered in people who have never skated before so they can see what it is like," Idaho Steelheads president Eric Trapp said. "This is aimed at the first-timers and people who haven't grown up on skates."

Learn to Skate Day is open to all ages. All participants will be asked to sign a waiver before taking the ice.

The Steelheads return home on New Year's Eve, January 31, to host the Stockton Thunder. The two teams play New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and January 2nd. Tickets are available at the Qwest Arena box office or by calling 208.331.TIXS. Full-season and partial-season ticket plans remain available as well. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 or log on to www.idahosteelheads.com for more information.
