Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Ring In The New Year At Home

The South Carolina Stingrays ended the holiday week with contests against the Gwinnet Gladiators and Charlotte Checkers for a week record of 1-1. On Saturday the Stingrays traveled to Gwinnett and skated away with a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Gladiators. Trailing 3-0 late in the second period, Stingrays forward Matt Fornataro netted two goals and Spencer Carbery and Trent Campbell added a goal each to seal the win. The Stingrays quickly returned home to face the Charlotte Checkers on Sunday afternoon. The score seesawed through all three periods, but it was the Checkers that prevailed late in the final frame earning a 5-4 victory. Rookie Dain Prewitt recorded two goals and an assist and Gregg Johnson and Fornataro both lit the lamp in the loss.

Taking the Lead:

The Stingrays are first in the South Division with 50 points and first overall in the American Conference.

Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford stands 12th in the ECHL with a 2.88 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. Ford also leads the league in wins with 16 and ranks first in minutes played and saves with 1416 and 690.

Rookie Dain Prewitt recorded his first professional two-goal game Sunday against the Charlotte Checkers in a 5-4 loss.

Forward Rob Ricci sits 6th among ECHL rookies with 27 points.

Stingrays forward Keith Johnson has moved up the ECHL leaderboard and holds the 12th spot with 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points.

Stingrays forward Matt Fornataro is currently on a league-best eleven-game point streak (9g, 8a) and ranks 5th overall in the ECHL with 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points. The Calgary, AB native is also on a four-game goal streak with five tallies.

Forward Trent Campbell is currently on a five-game point streak with five points (2g, 3a) and has four goals and eight assists in his last 12 games.

Comeback Falls Short for Stingrays in 5-4 Loss to Charlotte

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (23-8-1-3) erased three deficits, but fell to the Charlotte Checkers (16-10-3-1) 5-4 Sunday night in front of 4,242 at North Charleston Coliseum. Rookie Dain Prewitt scored two goals and an assists in the loss.

Stingrays Score Four Unanswered Goals to Beat Gladiators 4-3

Duluth, GA -The South Carolina Stingrays (23-7-1-3) erased a three-goal deficit to defeat the Gwinnett Gladiators (14-10-2-1) 4-3 Saturday night in front of 5,377 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. Forward Matt Fornataro scored two goals and Spencer Carbery earned two points in the victory.

Stingrays Make Multiple Roster Moves

North Charleston, SC - The Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays announced today that defenseman Josh Godfrey has been recalled to Hershey and forward Nikita Kashirsky has been called up by Springfield of the AHL. The Stingrays have also signed defenseman Scott Romfo. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
