VICTORIA, BC - D Kevin Truelson hammered home the game-winner, as the Bakersfield Condors beat the Victoria Salmon Kings 2-1 in overtime in Game 1 of the seven-game series in front of 5,008 fans at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria Thursday night. With the win, the Condors take a 1-0 lead in the series and now have home-ice advantage.

It took LW Mark Derlago, playing in his first ECHL playoff game, only 43 seconds to put the Condors up, as he found the back of Victoria's net with an unassisted goal early in the opening frame. G Yutaka Fukufuji turned aside all 16 Victoria shots in the period, keeping the Bakersfield lead intact through 20 minutes.

Although the Condors couldn't find a way to add to their lead in the second, Fukufuji stopped 12 more Salmon Kings shots in the stanza to keep it 1-0 in favor of Bakersfield after two.

Salmon Kings LW Kevin Estrada beat Fukufuji in the third period to tie the game, 1-1, after the Condors netminder shut out Victoria for the first 49 minutes of the game. The Condors put 12 shots on goal in the final frame, but the game went to a 20-minute overtime in a 1-1 tie.

The overtime session only lasted 1:55, as Truelson broke the tie with a slap shot from the point that served as the game-winner for the Condors. Fukufuji stopped one shot in overtime and finished the game with 39 saves, leading Bakersfield to the 2-1 overtime win in Game 1 of the seven-game series.
