Reading Royals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Reading Royals of the ECHL dropped Game One of the best-of-seven North Division Semi-Final match-up with the Elmira Jackals, 1-0, at First Arena in Elmira, New York. The Jackals broke the scoreless deadlock in what was a classic, playoff-styled give-and-take battle with a working man's deflection in the third period. Royals' goaltender Danny Taylor (0-1; 28/29) played solid and made a couple spectacular stops in his first start for Reading since December 5, 2007. Joel Martin (1-0; 34/34) was equally good, making several key stops down the stretch to keep the Royals off the board.

After two tight and rugged periods, the Jackals broke the 0-0 tie when Chris Busby fired a shot from the high slot that deflected off the body of Bruce Watson, who was crashing in front of the Royals' goal. As Watson, Taylor and Reading defender, P.J. Atherton, tumbled to the ice in a tangled jumble, the puck fluttered into the air, landed on the right side of the crease, bounced and trickled across the goal line as Taylor made a last gasp effort to keep the puck out. Reading pressured throughout the game and had a couple of chances down the stretch, but Martin and the Jackals preserved the shutout for the win and 1-0 series lead.

The Royals and Jackals return to the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania for Game Two of the best-of-seven series tomorrow night (Saturday, April 12, 7:05 pm). The game night broadcast on Saturday will begin at 6:35 pm with the pre-game warm-up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata, as well as on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. Streaming video is available on a pay per view basis through the B2 Networks.
