Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Jason Ralph scored twice and Kevin St. Pierre stopped 29 shots as the Bakersfield Condors beat the Gulls 5-1 in front of 5,166 fans at Centennial Garden on Friday night. Both teams are tied for second place with 49 points this season.
Ralph netted his first goal of the game after a penalty kill, as he intercepted the puck and waltzed in on goaltender Trevor Koenig all alone. He slipped a backhander through the five-hole for his 15th of the season. Shawn Byram made it 2-0 with his 11th of the season later in the first, as he finished off a 2-on-1 with Christian Skoryna. Skoryna finished the game with two assists.
The Gulls scored the only goal of the second period, as defenseman Dan Cousineau blasted home a shot from just inside the blueline for his first goal of the season. Towards the end of the period, David Bell squared off with San Diego scrapper Ashlee Langdone, whipping the crowd into a frenzy when a couple lefts sent Langdone to the ice. The Condors led 2-1 after two periods.
The third period was all Condors, as they scored three goals on six shots. Jeff Goldie tipped home his 12th of the season just a few minutes into the final stanza, and Ralph added another by batting the puck out of mid-air past Koenig to make it 4-1. While shorthanded, with less than three minutes remaining and the San Diego net empty for an extra attacker, Jamie Cooke fired home his fifth goal in the last three games to seal the win. The Condors won their sixth consecutive game, having tallied 33 goals in the streak. Cooke leads the league now with four shorthanded goals on the season.
Bakersfield hosts San Diego again on Saturday night, a 7:00pm start from Centennial Garden. The first 2,000 children 12 and under will receive a Kevin St. Pierre Bobblehead Doll, sponsored by KGET-TV 17 and Carl's Jr.
