Grrrowl Stop Blades 4-3 in Shootout

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (21-12-9) fell in a shootout to the Greenville Grrrowl (19-22-3) 4-3 in front of a crowd of 6,400 at TECO Arena on Friday night.

The Grrrowl got on the board early while they were shorthanded after forward Alexandre Burrows registered his 6th goal of the year at the 19:36 mark of the period.

The Everblades then tied the game at 1-1 in the second period after Marty Johnston picked up his 18th goal of the season. However, the Grrrowl made it 2-1 after Tyler Deis notched a goal at the 12:05 mark of the second period. The Grrrowl then took a 3-1 lead on Chris Lynch's 8th tally of the 2002-03 campaign. The Everblades battled back in the second period on a goal off the stick of forward Kevin Brown.

Florida forward Joe Blaznek then tied the game at 3-3 in the third period after he finished a 2 on 1 break. Linemates Kevin Brown and Marty Johnston were credited with the helpers on Blaznek's team leading 20th goal of the season.

After a scoreless overtime frame, the Grrrowl converted 3 out of 5 attempts in the shootout to earn the extra point and pick up the win.

Florida goaltender Rob Zepp (16-8-6) stopped 36 of 39 shots he faced while Greenville netminder Michael Garnett (9-11-0) stopped 33 of 36 shots. The Everblades were 0 for 3 on the power play while the Grrrowl were 1 for 3.

Florida hosts the Greenville Grrrowl at TECO Arena on Saturday night at 7:30 PM.
