Kingfish Continue to Wait for Nets

January 24, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release

The Baton Rouge Kingfish are still waiting for the installation of protective netting in the Riverside Centroplex by the arena management.

The Kingfish came to an agreement in November with Centroplex management to have the netting installed in the arena by the beginning of the New Year. Per the agreement, the Kingfish were to purchase the protective netting while the Centroplex would take the necessary steps to properly install the protective nets in the arena.

The Kingfish purchased two custom-made PRO-SPEC Monofilament Nets from Burley's Rink Supplies, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, designed specifically to properly fit in the Centroplex.

The custom nets were delivered to the Kingfish on December 13th. The hockey team, tenants of the Centroplex with no control over the maintenance and upkeep of the building, handed the nets over to the arena for installation on December 17th.

The Kingfish were away from Baton Rouge for two weeks on a northern road trip following the delivery of the custom netting to the building. Despite the arena sitting vacant for many days, the nets were never installed.

In an effort to rectify the situation, Kingfish season ticket holders who feel affected by the lack of nets behind the goals should call the Kingfish office at 336-4625 to relocate their season tickets.

Pro-Spec Netting is manufactured with a 1-1/2" diamond mesh, in addition, it is also virtually see-through yet strong enough to stop a puck traveling at 120mph.

To provide added safety this season, the East Coast Hockey League, following the lead of the American Hockey League and the National Hockey League, has mandated the netting to provide extra protection from errant pucks entering the stands.

All inquiries should be placed directly to Owner and CEO, Scott Bolduc at 225-927-5558, ext. 215, by fax at 225-214-1099, or by e-mail at Scotty@kingfishhockey.com. Kingfish season ticket holders interested in moving their seats should call the Kingfish office at 225-336-4625.
