Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - F Brett Pilkington scored twice and added an assist to help pace the Bakersfield Condors to a 7-3 trouncing of the Victoria Salmon Kings in front of 6,000 fans at Rabobank Arena Friday night.
Victoria (37-27-7, 81pts) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. RW Brady Leavold (at 8:49) and D Matt Kelly (at 12:35) put the visiting Salmon Kings in command. But the Condors (31-31-7, 69pts) responded in a hurry. Less than four minutes later the game was tied up. F Brett Pilkington notched his 11th of the season at 14:13, and then just 2:05 later, C Danny LaPointe hammered in a rebound to erase the deficit. The game appeared to be headed to the first intermission with a tie score, but Pilkington found a loose puck in the slot and tickled the twine for his second of the night to give Bakersfield the lead after one.
Early in the second the Salmon Kings tied the game up at 3-3 with RW Wes Goldie's 48th of the season at 5:28. After that, however, it was all Condors. RW Tylor Michel, LW Mark Derlago and C Bruce Graham each lit the lamp to give the home team a three-goal bulge heading into the dressing room. Derlago's goal was his 30th of the season, tying him for the team lead and making him the first Condor since Paul Willett in 2000-01 to have back-to-back 30-goal seasons.
Bakersfield had the only tally of the third frame, with RW Mike Wirll racking up his 22nd of the season with a power play marker. The goal came at 8:29, and the Condors cruised to the 7-3 win. G Yutaka Fukufuji made 21 saves for his 16th win of the season, and the Condors finished 3-for-3 on the power play.
