Boise, ID- The Idaho Steelheads (41-23-4) shutout the Ontario Reign (37-29-5) 6-0 in front of 4,843 fans at Qwest Arena as they netted two goals in each period. With the win, the Steelheads won the season series with Ontario, as their record against the Reign this season stands at 3-2-0.
The scoring opened in the first period when Brandon Svendsen scored his third professional goal and third of the season on the power play at 16:22. Marty Flichel and Bryan McGregor assisted on the goal. The assist for McGregor was the first of four on the evening.
At 18:15 of the opening period, Trevor Ludwig scored his first professional goal on a point shot that sailed by Ontario goalie Jeff Zatkoff and into the net. After Ben Nelson put the Steelheads up 3-0 in the second period, Ludwig would add his second goal of the game to give Idaho a 4-0 edge after two periods.
In the third period, Garett Bembridge and Darrell Hay added power play goals to put the Steelheads on top 6-0, which is how the game would end.
Matt Climie earned the win, stopping all 26 shots from the Reign. The Idaho Meth Project "Not Even Once" shutout is his second consecutive display of perfection, and his record on the season improves to 26-12-1. Jeff Zatkoff takes the loss for Ontario, as his record falls to 17-15-2; he stopped 41 of 47 Idaho shots. The Steelheads' 47 shots tied their season-high, a total they also reached in a February 18 win at home over the Las Vegas Wranglers.
