Condors Fall 3-1 to Stockton in Scrimmage

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors were defeated by the Stockton Thunder 3-1 in n exhibition scrimmage at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center.

The Thunder, preparing for their first season of ECHL action, hit the scoreboard first as Aaron Foster capitalized on a Condor turnover and backhanded a pass over the right-hand blocker of Ryan Munce 1:20 onto the first period.

Later in the first, Stockton center Noah Whyte chipped a free puck through a pile on the right side of Munce's crease to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead with 5:37 remaining in the period.

Both teams switched goaltenders midway through the second period Goaltender Ryan Cyr replaced Munce and Stockton starter Jeff Weber was relieved by Kasey Moreland.

Stockton scored their third unanswered off a rebound as Casey Burtzen pushed the puck past Cyr to give the Thunder a 3-0 lead with 4:35 left in the second period.

The Condors hit the scoreboard and made it 3-1 with just under five seconds remaining in the second period as Mike Hofstrand banged the puck past Moreland on the powerplay to cut Stockton's lead to two. Louis-Philippe Martin and Scott Borders assisted on the goal.

Both Cyr and Moreland held their opponents scoreless in the third period as the Thunder held on for the win. The Condors outshot Stockton 24-20, and a total of 25 penalties were called.
